Riesling's home is on the Rhine river on the French- German border. It's a very aromatic grape variety with naturally high acidity. Well made, aged riesling can produce aromas of petrol.
The vineyards are on steep slopes - this one with a 60% incline. It means everyone has to farm by hand here. The slate soil is nutritiously poor but retains the heat of the day to keep grapes warm through the evening.
