Melnik 55
April 2021
OUR FIRST IMPRESSIONS

An elegant and peppery red with strawberry, blackberry, black pepper. It's a little like a savoury Beaujolais - light in body, juicy, but with a little vanilla from the oak aging.

Melnik 55 is the 55th attempt at crossing the local grape variety with valdiguié, a Southern French grape. Melnik is a historic town in the very south of Bulgaria. Bordering with Greece, it has very hot summers that quickly turn cold due to its high altitude. "Dried forest fruits and herbs. Strawberries and black pepper. It's the perfect balance between savoury and juicy berries. It reminds us of a Beaujolais - super easy drinking wine that’s perfect for Spring." - IL
