Montsant is one of Spain's newest Denominación de origen (DO) regions. Neighbouring Priorat is known for high tannin, ageworthy reds, but Montsant are typically meant to be enjoyed a bit younger. The region is high altitude, meaning some cooler influences compared to other Spanish regions. Garnacha and samsó dominates here with reds, with garnacha blanca and macabeo as the whites. Since being created in 2001, this region has shot quickly to national acclaim.Samsó mostly has red fruit aromas, but can also bring with it spice, herbal, and meat notes as well. It's medium body and medium tannin, and very fruit forward.
