Lovely ripe fruits but nothing jammy. Black cherries, black berries, spice, some vanilla from the oak. Good tannic grip but not overpowering. Very well balanced.
This bottle of Sangiovese comes from the Azienda Argricola Casale vineyard in Tuscany, which has been organic and biodynamic since 1980. It's a welcome change to the Sangiovese from the 1970s which gained itself a bad reputation. The grape is the most popular red wine grape in Italy, and it's especially at home in the Tuscan hills. This wine has lovely ripe fruits, but nothing jammy. Think: black cherries, black berries, spice and some vanilla from the oak. It's got a good tannic grip but it's not overpowering. All in all, very well balanced.
